The cost of supporting Syrian refugees in Jordan is expected to reach $4.295 billion dollars of the next three years, news reports said today.

According to the Jordanian newspaper Al-Ghad, the plan has allocated $2.4 billion to eight sectors which have been most hit by the pressure resulting from hosting Syrian refugees: education, health, the provision of energy, municipal services, water, protection, housing and employment.

The plan also allocated $758 million to support the government in hosting the Syrian refugees for those three years, 2014-2016, $965.3 million for the cost of security, and $87 million to support transport and aviation.

This plan provides an integrated programme for high-priority investments for the government during 2014-2016 in response to the impact of the Syrian crisis on Jordan.

According to the executive summary of the plan, the Syrian crisis, entering its fourth year, is still adversely affecting Jordan. The plan presents an attempt by the government to assess the key sectors and the effect of Syrian refugees upon them. The government is working to attain national, regional and international partners to get the necessary assistance for implementing these investments and funding.
