Abbas warns of the danger of Israeli assaults on Al-Aqsa

June 5, 2014 at 10:28 am

The Arab and Muslim world should take prompt action to protect and defend Al-Aqsa Mosque, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said yesterday.

Abbas condemned assaults on the mosque made by settlers and extremist Knesset members under the protection of the Israeli authorities.

He warned of the danger of the ongoing Israeli excavations under Al-Aqsa Mosque, which threaten the mosque’s foundations and make it liable to collapse at any moment.

Abbas called on Arabs and Muslims to protect Al-Aqsa and preserve the Holy City of Jerusalem’s Arab identity and religious status.

He also urged Jordan, the Jerusalem Committee, the Islamic Cooperation Council (ICC) and leaders of Arab and Muslim countries to uphold their religious, nationalist and historical responsibility toward Al-Aqsa and to take necessary steps to safeguard it and defend it.

In light of the dangers threatening Al-Aqsa Mosque, Abbas will attend the ICC conference that will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on June 8, wherein he will call for implementing relevant resolutions previously issued by Arab summits and the Jerusalem Committee.
