Lebanese minister: No progress in the presidential election crisis

Lebanon’s Minister of Public Health Wael Abu Faour said “the door to a political compromise in the presidential elections is not open yet” calling “not to hold any third party responsible for the crisis because it is an internal Lebanese crisis”.

During a meeting with mayors of the Federation of Mount Hermon in southern Lebanon, Abu Faour said: “So far there is no progress in the presidency issue and it does not seem that there are solutions on the horizon that could put an end to the presidential void. Political forces exchange impractical conditions and impossible demands; therefore the door to a political compromise is not open yet.”

Abu Faour said: “The Lebanese political parties should not hold foreign parties responsible, because the crisis is an internal Lebanese issue and the decision is domestic one.”

He called for an end to the state of uncertainty and urged political blocs to go to the parliament and elect a president.

Abu Faour hoped that “deliberations outside the parliament to approve a project to improve public sector salaries could lead to a formula that does not strain the Lebanese Treasury or the financial situation and the Lebanese people.”
