Al-Bayanouni announces his resignation from the Syrian opposition

June 11, 2014 at 9:52 am

The former General Guide of Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood Ali Al-Bayanouni today announced his resignation from the Syrian opposition coalition because he objects to them congratulating Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi.

In a letter addressed to the Coalition General Committee that was published on the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood’s official site, Al-Bayanouni justified his decision to quit the coalition saying it “no longer reflects the hopes and aspirations of the Syrian people in achieving the objectives of the glorious revolution. I am surprised that the Coalition represented by its president has sent a congratulatory message to the counter-revolution in Egypt to congratulate the masterminds of the coup for their success in defeating the Egyptian people’s revolution of January 2011; one of the revolutions that inspired the Syrian people to revolt against the rule of Bashar Al-Assad in March 2011.”

The President of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces Ahmed Al-Jarba on Monday congratulated Egypt’s former Defence Minister Al-Sisi for winning Egypt’s presidency last Sunday.

Al-Jarba expressed hope in a letter sent to Al-Sisi to strengthen cooperation with Egypt under the leadership of Al-Sisi saying that Egypt plays an active role in helping the Syrian people achieve their goals of freedom, justice and equality.

Al-Bayanouni considered this to be no different from congratulating Bashar Al-Assad who he described as a “criminal” in his manner of winning “the fake elections” in Syria.
