An Egyptian court is scheduled to hear an appeal into a prison sentence handed down against a 15-year-old female activist charged with “possession of Rabaa (R4BIA) sign and disturbing the peace.”

Maria Metwally Samaha is among the youngest political detainees arrested since the July 3 military coup. She was arrested last December 18 following her participation in a human chain against the coup in Dakahliya governorate where she was calling for the release of female detainees.

Maria has been sentenced to one year in prison and fined EGP 20,000. She was released after spending 55 days in prison.
