Hamas: We will go ahead without reconciliation without retreat

Hamas’ senior leader Mousa Abu-Marzouk said yesterday that his movement would overcome all obstacles in the way of Palestinian national unity.

Speaking in a meeting in northern Gaza, Abu-Marzouk said: “We will continue overcome obstacles and we will contact the other side to solve all the problems.”

He continued: “Hamas conceded many things for the sake of national reconciliation and ending the divisions. We are going ahead without any retreat.”

Abu-Marzouk sent a message to the national unity government calling for it to commit to its obligations, most importantly paying the salaries of its employees. He reiterated that the main goal of the reconciliation was to form a government that represents all Palestinians.

The member of Hamas political bureau condemned the crackdown of the Palestinian security services in the West Bank on Palestinian activists and activities carried out in solidarity with the prisoners on hunger striker for 48 days inside Israeli jails.

“It is a priority for the security services to protect freedom of expression for the Palestinians instead of maintaining security cooperation,” he said. He called for the Freedom Committee to carry out its duties regarding the protection of Palestinian freedoms.
