Egyptian army on alert along border with Gaza

June 16, 2014 at 12:06 pm

Egyptian army units on the Gaza-Egyptian borders have been on alert since three Israeli settlers were announced missing on Friday, witnesses said.

According to the witnesses from Rafah, the city that lies on along the border, said the Egyptian army raised red flags along the borders.

An official security source told the Palestinian newspaper Al-Resalah that the Egyptian army had mobilised a large number of its military equipment 300 metres from its border with Gaza.

The source said that the equipment was positioned near Salahuddin Gate and Al-Barahma neighbourhood to the west of Egyptian Rafah.

Commenting on the news, a security source expressed his surprise over this measure because the area has been quiet after months of military action in Sinai and Egyptian Rafah following the ouster of the first freely elected Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi.
