Egypt: Court ruling on Al-Jazeera journalists to be issued on Monday

June 17, 2014 at 11:44 am

The court in which Al-Jazeera journalists are being tried said yesterday that the ruling will be issued on Monday, AFP reported.

In a case that has been ongoing for nearly four months, three journalists from Al-Jazeera English; Mohamed Fahmy, Peter Greste and Baher Mohamed, have appeared before the court, while two foreign journalists are being tried in absentia.

The Egyptian defendants are charged with being members of an illegal group – in reference to the Muslim Brotherhood – that aims to overthrow the ruling regime using force. They could be sentenced to up to 25 years in prison.
