Israel 'ready' to help Africa fight terrorism

June 17, 2014 at 11:09 am

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Tuesday that his country was ready to help African nations in their fight against terrorism.

“Israel condemns terrorism in Africa and elsewhere; we are ready to assist Africa with everything we can,” Lieberman said at a meeting with Ethiopian counterpart Tedros Adhanom in Addis Ababa.

Lieberman arrived in Addis Ababa earlier today for a one-day visit.

The trip comes as part of an ongoing Africa tour, which has already taken Lieberman to Rwanda, Ivory Coast and Ghana.

The Israeli minister will also visit Kenya for the final leg of his ten-day tour.

Last month, Nigeria welcomed an offer by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to send a team of counterterrorism experts to join the ongoing search for scores of abducted schoolgirls in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno State.

On April 14, Boko Haram militants stormed a school in the town of Chibok, located on the fringes of Nigeria’s Sambisa Forest, loading scores of schoolgirls onto trucks before driving away unchallenged.
