Iran's foreign minister says nuclear deal on track

Iran and world powers began Wednesday drafting the final agreement on the Iranian nuclear program, despite having a few differences, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif announced Wednesday.

Zarif told the Iranian Student News (ISNA) that “the parties began putting the finishing touches to the final agreement”.

The P5 +1 powers, which include the United States, Britain, Russia, China, France and Germany are currently holding meetings with Irani officials in Vienna for talks on Tehran’s nuclear file.

Iran and the United States have started direct talks since last year, after arduous negotiations led by Assistant Secretary of State William Burns led to signing an interim agreement. The parties agreed to sign a final agreement by July 20, and in the worst-case scenario the talks would be extended an additional six months.

Tehran and Washington are discussing several files specifically on the Iraqi arena, where the parties have agreed to support the government of Nuri al-Maliki against rebels.
