Egypt's pro-coup Salafist party lobbies for revoking controversial parliamentary law

The Salafist al-Nour Party is currently lobbying other parties to pressure the post-coup president Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi to revoke the controversial parliamentary law ratified by his predecessor Adly Mansour.

Despite opposition by the Nour Party, the Egyptian government insists to implement the law which gives parliamentary majority for individual candidates, with only a minority for political parties (22.3%).

According to Nour Party official Salah Abdelmaboud, the party is currently preparing a memorandum that includes its thoughts and proposed amendments to the law.

“Holding elections under the current law would be catastrophic for political parties,” he said.
