Morocco approves bill on Constitutional Court

The Moroccan parliament approved unanimously yesterday a bill that changes the Constitutional Council into a Constitutional Court, Anadolu news agency said.

The Moroccan Constitutional Council was established in 1996. The ratification of the new bill is to be enacting after its publication in the official newspaper.

According to the bill, the Constitutional Court enjoys large powers that represent the distinctive role of Constitutional Judiciary along with the temporary democratic system.

According to article 130 in the Moroccan Constitution, the Constitutional Court consists of 12 members with a nine year-term in office. The king chooses six and the two chambers of the parliament choose the other six.
