Ex-Tamarod member: 'We have been betrayed after June 30'

Former coordinator of the Tamarod movement in the Egyptian bar association Ahmed Qinawy slammed the post-coup regime in Egypt, saying that those who organised last year’s June 30 protests have been “betrayed.”

“June 30 has not provided anything for Egypt, and has not made Egypt better off. On the contrary, Egypt has become worse off since June 30,” he told Al Jazeera on Monday.

Qinawy pointed out that the demands for which Tamarod was formed have not been met, and that crises have multiplied.

“We demanded freedom and democracy for Egypt, but Egypt has now turned to a repressive country, and the regime knows no other language than repression and tyranny,” he said.

“I challenge Al-Sisi to mobilise 5% of those who turned out in last year’s protest,” he added.
