Egypt: Students Against the Coup to commemorate massacre with fresh protests

July 7, 2014 at 11:15 am

The Students Against the Coup movement said it plans to commemorate the anniversary of the Republican Guards massacre with a new wave of protests under the slogan: “the revolution never stops”.

The movement’s spokesperson Ibrahim Gamal said the protests will start tomorrow, and will include marches and mass demonstrations in Cairo’s main squares and other governorates. He said the students’ group will coordinate its activities with other revolutionary groups and anti-coup forces.

“Tuesday will witness an escalation, commemorating the Republican Guards Massacre, in response to the continued arrests of girls and the killing of four students, including Heba Gamal, by police bullets during the anniversary of the July 3 coup,” he said.

The movement had previously announced that the July 3 protests were “in preparation for a grand uprising to take place on July 8.”
