Sisi wants to reach out to Muslim Brotherhood

July 8, 2014 at 9:58 am

Former Secretary-General of the Arab League Amr Moussa informed leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood that President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi tasked him with communicating with the group through its leader Mohamed Ali Bishr, informed sources toldAl-Araby Al-Jadeed website.

The source confirmed that “a political figure from the decision-making circle of Al-Sisi” has already informed Brotherhood leaders of that move, and that Moussa is expected to contact Bishr in the coming days.

The source said that Bishr, if approached by Moussa, will stress on the need to contact the ousted President Mohamed Morsi and to engage him as a key member of this dialogue. “The Brotherhood and its allies believe that Morsi is the key to the solution of this crisis,” he said.

Analysts believe that the Sisi regime’s outreach to Bishr may explain why he has not been detained until now despite the government’s arrest of all the group’s senior leaders, as well as all other senior members of the National Alliance for Supporting Legitimacy, also known as the Anti-Coup Alliance.
