Tunisia condemns Israeli actions, calls on UN to intervene

July 9, 2014 at 2:00 pm

Tunisia condemned the Israeli military escalation in the Gaza Strip and demanded the Security Council immediately intervene to stop such attacks, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement today.

“Tunisia strongly condemns the grave Israeli military escalation in the Gaza Strip, which resulted in a number of deaths and injuries among Palestinian civilians,” the statement said.

It went on to renewed Tunisia’s solidarity with the Palestinian people, and called on “the international community and the UN Security Council to assume their responsibilities and urgently intervene to force the Israeli government to immediately stop these unjustified attacks, which aim to further destroy the lives of the Palestinian people and puts the area on the brink of explosion.”

On Monday, Israel launched a series of raids across the Gaza Strip, in a military operation named Operation Protective Edge.

The raids have killed 28 Palestinians, including children, and injuring about 204 others, some seriously, Palestinian medical sources said.
