Palestinian rockets target Dimona

July 10, 2014 at 11:58 am

Palestinian resistance fighters have, for the first time, succeeded in firing homemade rockets at the Israeli city of Dimona, the home of Israel’s nuclear reactor in the Negev Desert.

The military wing of Hamas, the Izzuddin Al-Qassem Brigades, claimed responsibility for targeting the city with three M75 rockets. Yedioth Ahranoth newspaper said that Israel’s Iron Dome missile defence system intercepted one rocket. No casualties were reported by the Israelis.

According to a statement issued by the brigades, Dimona was chosen as a target in response to the ongoing Israeli attacks against Palestinians civilians in the Gaza Strip.

“We pledged not to keep silent over the crimes of the [Israeli] occupation authorities,” said the resistance group. “We will make them pay a high price.” It said that it would continue to target Israeli cities as long as Israel wages its massive war against civilians.

Israel has killed 76 Palestinians and wounded more than 540 in Gaza since it started so-called “Operation Protective Edge” on Tuesday.
