Hamas sets five ceasefire conditions

July 17, 2014 at 12:46 pm

A Palestinian informed source revealed on Thursday that Hamas has introduced five ceasefire conditions, Felesteen Online reported.

The informed source, whose condition was to remain anonymous, reportedly told Anadolu news agency that Hamas has five conditions for any potential ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which will be presented to the Arab League, Egypt, UN and Jordan.

According to Felesteen Online, the five conditions are the following: lifting the blockade; opening the Rafah Crossing 24/7 with international monitors; expanding access to the sea for fishing; allowing Gaza residents to perform prayers in Al-Aqsa Mosque; and releasing all Palestinian prisoners freed in the Shalit swap according to the terms of the deal reached in 2012.

Hamas previously announced its refusal of the Egyptian ceasefire because it did not address any of the conditions of the resistance.

According to Israel’s Haaretz newspaper, Egypt did not even consult with Hamas regarding the terms of the ceasefire and the resistance movement only learned of the deal through media reports.
