Iraqi government considering halting oil supplies to Jordan

The Iraqi government is considering halting its daily oil supplies to Jordan due to the latter’s hosting of a conference held by opposition figures last Wednesday.

According to Al-Arab Al-Yawm newspaper, the outgoing Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki is “outraged” at Jordan’s hosting of the conference, attended by 150 Iraqi Sunni opposition figures.

A major conference will be held in Amman soon, and will be attended by over 700 Iraqi opposition members, an unnamed source told Al-Arab Al-Yawm. The date of the conference is yet to be announced.

Iraq supplies Jordan with 20,000 oil barrels per day at preferential prices, less than $10 per barrel.

Jordan has requested an increase in Iraqi oil supplies to reach 30,000 barrels a day.

On Friday, Iraqi authorities decided to call the Iraqi ambassador from the Jordanian capital “for consultations”, the foreign ministry said, two days after the opposition conference in Amman.
