Turkish minister: 'Would the West be silent if those killed in Gaza were Christians or Jews?'

Turkey’s Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdag criticised the international community’s silence about Israel’s killing of civilians in Gaza, wondering “would the west stay silent if those killed in Gaza were Christians or Jews, or non-Muslims of any faith?”

In a speech he delivered following an Iftar ceremony on Friday in Yozgat city, Bozdag said he lamented the injustice suffered by the people in Palestine, Iraq, and Syria.

“Israel does not only kill children, women and unarmed civilians, but it also kills humanity and conscience,” he said, lashing out at the international community for its inaction towards the killings in Gaza, accusing “some countries” of supporting the attack on Gaza and justifying Israeli violations by portraying them as acts of self-defence.

“Where is that self-defence? Everyone is seeing what’s happening in Gaza. Israel is killing children while they are playing, and the international community says it’s self-defence. They know the truth but don’t want to acknowledge the fact that Israel is committing massacres and murdering women and children. Those who applaud and support Israeli attacks are complicit in this injustice,” he said.
