Al-Zahar: A truce with Israel ‘comes with a price’

July 24, 2014 at 12:59 pm

Member of Hamas Mahmoud Al-Zahar said that any truce with Israel will not be granted for free.

In a press statement that was published yesterday, Al-Zahar said that a truce agreement with Israel must be based on the principle of deterring Israel and fulfilling the demands of the Palestinian people. “Without achieving that, the resistance will continue to defend our Palestinian people,” he added.

He stressed that the truce with Israel will not be granted for free, and those who want it, have to pay the price for it.

Al-Zahar also called for a political investment in the victory that was achieved by the resistance in the Gaza Strip.

He stressed on the need to review the current Palestinian national situation, explaining that it must not be as it was before the Israeli aggression, “especially after the victories of the resistance in the field, which will be followed by the next political victory,” according to him.

On July 7 Israel launched an aerial and sea bombardment of the Gaza Strip. This was expanded to a ground offensive last week.

Since the beginning of the Israeli operation Israel has killed 746 Palestinians, and wounded over 5,000, mostly women, children and elderly, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

Israeli sources said that the operation has resulted in the killing of 32 Israeli soldiers and two civilians, while 435 people were wounded, mostly suffering from panic attacks, in addition to 90 soldiers. However, the Izz Ad-Din Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, claims that they had killed 52 Israeli soldiers, and captured another.
