Egyptian commentators and former politicians have welcomed the electoral victory of outgoing Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyib Erdogan on Sunday.

Former advisor to the ousted president Mohamed Morsi and political scientist Dr Seif Abdel-Fattah welcomed the victory in a congratulatory note on Facebook, while former minister of investment under Morsi, Yehia Hamed, congratulated Erdogan, haling his “persistence in supporting causes of liberty and democracy and standing against oppressive regimes.”

Human right activist Haitham Abu Khalil hailed the “principled competition” between Erdogan and his rival candidates, as the opposition’s candidate Ekmelettin Ihsanoglu congratulated Erdogan for his victory.

Similarly, political activist and Coptic youth leader Rami Jan congratulated Erdogan and the Turkish people. “Erdogan, this unique man has changed the political system in Turkey for good,” he said on Facebook.
