Sisi supporters struggle to form a unified front ahead of parliamentary elections

Supporters of Egyptian President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi have urged politician Amr Moussa to lead a unified alliance to run in the upcoming parliamentary elections after all other pro-Sisi coalitions collapsed.

Spokesperson of the Front for Supporting the President, Abdel Nabi Abdel Sattar, called on political and partisan forces to unite, stressing the importance of forming an electoral coalition led by Moussa. Disunity, he said, is only advantageous to the Islamic current and the Muslim Brotherhood.

“Political forces need the wisdom of Amr Moussa so as to garner a majority in parliament,” he said.

Likewise, the chairman of the Egypt Arab Socialist Party, Wahid Al-Aqsary, emphasised that working under Moussa’s leadership to form a national alliance that would include all parties will help achieve a majority in the parliament.

The Wafd Alliance has chosen Hossam Al-Khouli as secretary-general. The alliance will contest the upcoming elections independently of other coalitions, the spokesperson for the group said.

All current coalitions are uniformly supportive of the military ouster of Mohamed Morsi, led by ex-army Chief Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi, who was elected in June as president in what is widely considered to be show elections.
