The Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Turkey (AFAD) has sent 68.5 tonnes of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

Director-General Fuat Oktay said the aid is due to be delivered to Gaza after it lands in the Israeli airport of Ben Gurion in Tel Aviv.

Oktay said the aid includes material collected by a number of Turkish NGOs and charities while calling for everyone to come together to reduce the suffering of the people of Gaza.

The Turkish official said that the aid included 3,500 containers of food and other shipments to be sent on August 15 and 17 via air.

He added that AFAD is planning to send humanitarian aid to Gaza via Israeli seaports in August 30 and in November.
