Mekky criticises allegations that Muslim Brotherhood killed demonstrators

Egypt’s former President Hosni Mubarak has failed to defend himself against the prosecution’s accusations against him, Egypt’s former justice minister, Counsellor Ahmed Mekky said yesterday.

During a telephone call to Al-Jazeera Mubashir Misr, Mekky remarked on Mubarak’s speech during his trial yesterday saying that the former president sought to defend his years of rule.

Mekky pointed out that “Mubarak’s most basic charge is corruption that lasted during his 30 years of rule.” He said: “After Mubarak’s speech today we hope to see all the defendants given the chance to defend themselves as we have seen Mubarak do.”

Mekky criticised accusations against the Muslim Brotherhood of killing protesters during the January revolution, saying: “Did the rebels not say at the time that the Muslim Brotherhood hijacked the revolution and that they did not participate in it? How do we accuse them now of murdering the rebels?”
