Iraq’s Minister of Migration and Displacement Dindar Dosky said the number of displaced people in Iraq who have been forced to leave their homes due to clashes with the Islamic State (ISIS) has reached over one million people.

The Anadolu news agency reported Dosky’s remarks during a conference on the relief activities provided for displaced people in Iraq in the city of Erbil, northern Iraq.

Dosky pointed out that the majority of displaced families have escaped to Kurdistan, noting that the Iraqi government began providing material assistance and food for the displaced.

He stressed that the ministry’s relief teams have spread in various parts of Iraq and not only in Kurdistan, adding: “We are working to reach everyone living under great difficulties which hinder our efforts and we want the Kurdistan Regional Government to help the displaced to obtain residence permits. We are obliged to support those in need.”

Poland’s Ambassador to Iraq, Stanislaw Smolen arrived in Erbil on board a Polish plane loaded with humanitarian aid for displaced persons living in Kurdistan.
