Sudanese medical convoy arrives in Gaza

August 28, 2014 at 11:19 am

The second Sudanese medical convoy headed by the consultant doctor of heart and arteries, Mohamed Al-Amin Ismail, entered the Gaza Strip on Wednesday through the Rafah Crossing, Anadolu news agency reported.

Ismail is the dean of the scientific research faculty at Al-Nileen University in Khartoum.

According to the Sudanese Red Crescent, the convoy consists of doctors and representatives of the Red Crescent and it is the first medical delegation to arrive in Gaza since the ceasefire deal was announced on Tuesday evening. The truce ended Israel’s nearly seven week long assault on the Gaza Strip, which killed more than 2,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, and wounded thousands more.

The Sudanese news agency said the Sudanese doctors are planning to take part in treating Palestinians wounded during the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

The first medical delegation from Sudan, which took part in treating Palestinians in different hospitals, left the Gaza Strip last week.
