Turkish shipment of humanitarian aid enters Gaza

August 28, 2014 at 12:22 pm

The Turkish Red Crescent has handed over an urgent shipment of aid to the Palestinian Red Crescent, the Anadolu news agency reported.

The news agency reported Imad Abu-Matar, an official in the Turkish Red Crescent, saying that the shipment entered Gaza through the Rafah Crossing.

Abu-Matar said: “This is a small part of the humanitarian aid which should have reached Gaza through Rafah. This is what was allowed at this time and the remaining amounts will be sent to Gaza through the Israeli-Gaza crossings.”

The official said large amounts of money were collected in Turkey to help the people of the Gaza Strip. He said that they would buy relief materials either from Gaza or elsewhere in order to distribute it to the people who were displaced or harmed during the Israeli war.
