Ghannouchi: We reject foreign intervention in Libya

The Tunisian Nahda movement said it rejects any foreign intervention in Libya and called on rival Libyan troops to unite and renounce violence.

The leader of Nahda, Rashid Al-Ghannouchi, said during a Shura Council meeting of his group yesterday that Tunisia could play a role in resolving the Libyan crisis by organising reconciliation conferences, adding that his country is a model of democratic transition that could be emulated.

Over the past month, Libyan Dawn troops have accused Egypt and the UAE of launching airstrikes against their military sites in the Libyan capital of Tripoli, which has later been confirmed by a New York Times report citing four senior American sources.

News reports attributed to Libyan sources calls on the UN Security Council to intervene in Libya, which has later been denied by the Libyan foreign minister Mohamed Abdel-Aziz.

Ghannouchi had previously led mediation efforts between the different parties to the conflict in Libya before the fighting intensified.
