Morsi may be sentenced to death in Qatar espionage case, state TV

The ousted Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi may face a death sentence in the Qatar espionage case, the official news agency MENA reported Sunday, citing judicial sources.

According to the news report, also broadcast on Egyptian state TV, Morsi and ten other defendants who are charged with “leaking classified documents” to the state of Qatar, may be sentenced to death if convicted.

The source pointed out that the penal code stipulates that leaking state secrets to a foreign country is punishable by death.
