A militant group called Ajnad Masr (Soldiers of Egypt) has claimed responsibility for the bombing that hit the vicinity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cairo yesterday killing two police officers.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the bombing targeted a checkpoint near the foreign ministry and claimed the lives of two officers: Officers Khaled Saafan and Mohamed Abou-Sreaa. Five others were injured, including a soldier.

In a statement on its Twitter page, Ajnad Masr said it succeeded in its “penetration operation” by reaching the vicinity of the foreign ministry and planting an explosive device that targeted the police officers.

It described the bombing as “revenge and retribution” for what it said the interior ministry “inflicts upon Muslims”.

In July, the Ajnad Masr group claimed responsibility for another bombing that killed an officer in front of the Ittihadiya presidential palace in Heliopolis.
