The Egyptian prosecutor general has referred the General Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood and 104 others for criminal investigations on charges of planning to occupy the Town Hall of the Ismailia governorate, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement yesterday.

The charges state that the Muslim Brotherhood planned to occupy the Ismailia Town Hall on July 5 last year using firearms, which allegedly led to the killing of three citizens, damaging the Alexandria Bank building and an armoured police vehicle, two government cars, six civilian cars and motorbikes.

Mohammed Badie is also standing trial in a number of other cases which rights groups have condemned for being politically motivated. To date, he has received three life sentences and a death sentence.
