Former foreign minister: Involving the Muslim Brotherhood in political life is possible

Egypt’s former Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy said on Sunday that the issue of integrating the Muslim Brotherhood into political life remains a possibility, Al-Amat Online news reported.

He reportedly added, during an interview with the programme “10:00 pm” on the pro-coup satellite channel Dream 2, that the state has to contain the youth, stressing that understanding them means understanding “the future of Egypt”.

He pointed out that political leaders need to accept different opinions and to listen to the opposition, explaining that containing more opponents and holding discussions with them will reduce the West’s focus on the Islamic movement. If this were to happen, he said, “They would become more receptive to our statements about them.”
