Israeli army starts building 'smart' electronic walls around Gaza settlements

September 30, 2014 at 10:25 am

Following Israel’s latest war on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and in order to reassure those Israelis residing close to the border with Gaza, Israel’s Ministry of Security has decided to build “smart” electronic walls surrounding the settlements to prevent anybody from crossing the Gaza border into Israel, Arabs48 news website reported.

Citing Israeli reports, the news website explained that each block of settlements will have its operations room to monitor the electronic border surrounding it. This room will be linked to the operations room of the Israeli army in the Gaza area.

Arabs48 quoted a security official in the Southern Command as saying that: “The construction of the borders has already begun, and the goal is to enhance security and to provide a means for warning against infiltration.”

He added: “Some of those involved in infiltration aim at implementing operations and others are doing it in search of jobs. But we consider any infiltration terrorism.”

The same official pointed out that this decision is one in a series of steps that the Ministry of Security is about to implement. Another step includes increasing security, especially in educational institutions and public buildings. He added that army leaders, settlement heads and security men are all currently working on these new security plans.

The residents of the south have been complaining that they have lost their sense of security ever since Israel’s latest aggression on Gaza, with some of them forced to leave their settlements and move to other areas.
