The committee for political prisoners in the occupied West Bank said that the Palestinian Authority (PA) security services have arrested 145 Hamas members and summoned 170 others since the Palestinian-Israeli ceasefire was reached on 26 August, according to Al-Resalah Press.

Citing a statement issued by the committee, the news agency reported that: “The arrests targeted student activists and those who took part in anti-Israel activities organised during the war on Gaza or those who attended the celebrations of Gaza’s victory in Ramallah, Hebron, Nablus and Tulkarm.”

The committee also revealed that it had documented violations against the prisoners, including torture and beatings.

According to the committee, the security and intelligence services carried out most of the arrests while also committing other violations, including the invasion of houses and harassing of students and youth activists.

Some of the prisoners were arrested or summoned several times during the recent period, the committee said, and five of them have been on hunger strike since 23 September.

The committee called for the PA to stop carrying out the agenda of the Israeli occupation and to adopt the spirit of reconciliation by not dealing with its political rivals through a security approach.
