October 1, 2014 at 11:45 am

Ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi did not attend the court hearing yesterday in the trial where is accused of being involved in the storming of prisons during the January 25 revolution, a security source said.

This is the second time Morsi has failed to appear in court in three days. On Monday, both he and his Chief of Staff Mohamed Rifaat Al-Tahtawi failed to appear in court during the 16th sitting in the case where they are being charged with “collaborating” with Hamas, Hezbollah and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

A security source told the Anadolu news agency that Morsi was unable to attend due to security reasons.

The prisons break case involves 131 defendants, of which 105 have escaped and 26 are being administratively detained on charges of storming 11 prisons, attacking police stations, and abducting three police officers and one police assistant, during the January 25, 2011, revolution.
