Spain will not participate in fight against ISIS

October 2, 2014 at 4:16 pm

Spain will not send troops to participate in the attacks against ISIS in Iraq, the country’s Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo announced, saying: “Spain supports the international coalition in the fight against ISIS, but it will not send ground troops to fight the organisation in Iraq, nor will it participate in any airstrikes.”

Spain’s 20 Minutos newspaper quoted Garcia-Margallo as saying, during an interview with La Cadena SER channel: “Madrid’s support of the international coalition includes the use of its military bases, providing logistical support, supply of equipment, weapons and intelligence, as well as refuelling aircraft.”

The UK, France, Denmark and Belgium are the only European countries to have joined the international coalition against ISIS.
