Badie remains top Brotherhood leader: Group

Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood said Saturday that Mohamed Badie is still the Guide General of the Islamist movement.

“Mohamed Badie is still the Muslim Brotherhood Guide General,” the movement said in a statement.

The group denied media reports that Badie, who is standing trial on multiple violence charges, had been replaced.

“All these reports are bare of truth,” the Brotherhood said.

Egyptian authorities have launched a massive crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood following last year’s military ouster of elected president Mohamed Morsi, arresting hundreds of Brotherhood leaders and members, including Badie.

The government has since designated the Muslim Brotherhood, the group from which Morsi hails, a “terrorist” organization.
