October 8, 2014 at 11:12 am

The Israeli army said it held the Lebanese government responsible for two bombs which detonated on the Lebanese-Israeli border. Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for the attacks which wounded two Israeli soldiers.

In a statement broadcast on Army Radio, the Israeli army said: “The Israeli army holds the Lebanese government responsible for detonating two bombs on the border with Lebanon.”

The statement added that the Israeli army “will respond to the attack on its soldiers in every appropriate manner possible. We will not remain silent over this.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “We have demonstrated that we respond with force to any attempt to harm us, whether it is in the south, the north or any other area.”

Meanwhile, a source from the Israeli army told Army Radio that “the two Israeli soldiers wounded on Israel’s northern border with Lebanon belonged to the Combat Engineering Corps bomb squad unit,” noting that “the two soldiers were wounded during an operation aimed at discovering explosives planted in the area.”

In a statement broadcast by Army Radio, Netanyahu said: “I greatly thank our soldiers for preventing an operation against an Israeli target.”

In another statement made earlier today, the Israeli army announced that it bombed two Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon in response to the wounding of two Israeli soldiers.

Anadolu Agency was unable to obtain an immediate response from the Lebanese authorities regarding these statements. However, Hezbollah made a statement claiming responsibility for bombing an Israeli patrol on the southern Lebanese border.
