Egypt stifles Qatari projects in Gaza

October 8, 2014 at 1:31 pm

Since the beginning of the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip which it called “Operation Protective Edge”, Egypt has banned construction materials for Qatari projects from entering the Strip.

This has led to vital developments being halted including the construction of the main coastal road, Al-Rasheed Street, which links the southern Gaza Strip with the north, as well as Sallahuddin Road which leads to Egypt’s Arish in Sinai.

The roads have been left sandy, unpaved with rocks dotted around, without lighting and bypass roads, and have caused damage to vehicles.

Work on Sheikh Hamad City was also halted. The residential area was due to house thousands of displaced people following the war.

This is in addition to work on the prosthetics hospital project which has also been brought to a standstill.
