Pentagon: Turkey's proposed buffer zone not on the table

The Pentagon said yesterday that Turkey’s proposed buffer zone in Syria was not on the table as part of the military options being considered, however, this was the last issue discussed with Ankara.

In a press conference, Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby said: “This is not a new issue… The matter is not on the table now as a military option under consideration.”

The White House denied reports that they were looking into the idea of establishing a buffer zone on the Syrian-Turkish border after the American secretary of state and British foreign secretary announced that the idea was “worth examining”.

During a press briefing yesterday, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said that establishing a buffer zone “is not under consideration at the moment”.
