The salaries of some of the employees in the Gaza Strip will reach them in the coming days via Egypt, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said today.

In a statement made after his arrival to the Strip earlier today, Ban Ki-moon said the UN welcomes the Palestinian unity government and stands with it, saying “the international community is supporting your government for the return of security and stability in the Gaza Strip”.

He pointed out that the amount of money made during the reconstruction conference in Cairo comes in the framework of the great interest of the international community in the reconstruction of Gaza and “the great needs in Gaza and we will give them the required support”.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations said: “We will work in the Gaza Strip crossings to activate trade exchanges between the Gaza Strip and the West.”

The UN official is due to visit a number of UNRWA schools which were bombed during the recent Israeli aggression into the Strip.

Ban entered the Gaza Strip this morning via the Erez-Beit Hanoun crossing. His trip comes in the framework of his tour of the Palestinian territories and Israel to discuss accelerating the implementation of a plan approved by the donor countries to rebuild Gaza.
