The Egyptian Cabinet has banned the activities of the Anti-Coup Pro-Legitimacy National Alliance, the coalition spokesperson said; however, the judgment is not finaland cannot be legally implemented.

In a statement to the Egyptian cabinet yesterday, Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab decided to “implement the judgment of the Court of Cairo for urgent matters in case No.2808 for the year 2014 to ban the activities of the Anti-Coup Pro-Legitimacy National Alliance, in accordance with the judgment.”

For his part, Independence Party lawyer Imran Ashraf said “the verdict issued to ban the activities of the Anti-Coup Pro-Legitimacy National Alliance on September 29 is not final. An appeal was lodged against it two days ago, so the government is legally unable to execute it.”

Khaled Said, spokesman for the coalition supporting ousted President Mohamed Morsi, said: “We will continue our peaceful activities and this false decision was built on an illegal basis and we will not pay attention to it.”

Said, a leader of the Salafist Front, added: “The Alliance is not a group or party, and its activities are not restricted to a group, but it is believed in by many Egyptians who are defending their legitimate rights in Egypt.”
