Egyptian opposition figure united with hunger striking son

October 16, 2014 at 1:53 pm

The renowned Egyptian opposition figure, Sheikh Salah Sultan, met with his son Mohamed, who is suffering difficult health conditions, inside the court.

Sultan and his son were arrested in the wake of the military coup against the first ever freely elected Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi in June 2013.

Both demanded that they were imprisoned in the same cell, but their demand was denied.

Mohamed has been on his hunger strike for 263 days and has lost 80 kilogrammes. Activists said that this is the longest ever hunger strike in Egyptian history.

Sultan complained about the difficult health condition his son is suffering from including problems with his nervous system. He said Mohamed was being treated in the prison hospital while handcuffed and with his leg chained.

For the third time in under a month, an Egyptian court has refused to release Mohamed based on his health condition. Sultan said he blamed the court for the deterioration of his son’s health.
