Egyptian Revolutionary Council rejects military intervention in Libya

October 17, 2014 at 4:39 pm

The Egyptian Revolutionary Council expressed its anger and condemnation of the military attack carried out against Libyans.

The Council also stated that military intervention in Libyan affairs is a big mistake that confirms that the bloody coup is not only bad news for the Egyptian people, but for the entire region.

Despite the false denials that Egyptian planes bombed Libya on Wednesday, military leaders have confirmed that the attacks took place to international news agencies and Egyptian media outlets have exposed Egypt’s irresponsible behaviour that does not put the interests of Egypt first, the Council said. It also does not take into consideration the nearly one million Egyptian citizens in Libya, as well as the neighbourly, brotherly and historical ties between the two countries.

The Council continued by saying that the coup-led regime confirms its ineligibility and lack of responsibility on a daily basis, as it does not understand Egypt’s role and is not aware of the consequences of its actions that affect the interests of our people.

It stressed that there is a need to stop taking such risks and believes that Egypt must play a positive role in unifying people in Egypt and work towards bringing about peace. It must also steer clear of attempts to demonise some of the parties in order to justify its intervention and aggression, especially after the UN secretary-general’s visit to Tripoli and his call for dialogue and reconciliation amongst Libyan parties. Instead, Al-Sisi’s murderous regime delved into a military adventure that will severely impact Egypt, the group warned.
