ISIS members from the former Iraqi army have trained ISIS members how to fly three fighter jets captured from Assad’s forces, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Friday.

The human rights observer said that the jets were seized from Syrian military airports now under ISIS control in the northern provinces of Aleppo and Raqa.

According to the group, which has a wide network of sources within war-torn Syria, the planes are believed to be MiG-21 and MiG-23 jets.

They are capable of flying although it is unclear if they are equipped with missiles. The group said that defected Iraqi military officers are teaching ISIS members how to fly three fighter jets in Al-Jarrah military airport, east of Aleppo that was captured by ISIS.

In addition to Al-Jarrah Airport, ISIS controls two other Syrian airports – Albu Kamal near the Iraqi border and Tabqa in Raqa province.

Witnesses reported they had seen MiG fighter jets taking off from Al-Jarrah Airport several times.
