Egyptian students defiant in face of increased security repression

October 23, 2014 at 11:57 am

Students Against the Coup issued a statement yesterday stressing that the revolution is ongoing and that they will organise events in defiance of the security apparatus’ repression.

The group said: “In one week, the students broke the siege and barriers which the interior ministry, in conjunction with the other corrupt administrations and the university president, surrounded them with from the beginning of the school year, in a peaceful and creative manner.”

They said that they had held four events over the past week in several places, including both on and off campus, such as:

  • On Sunday in Kasr Al-Ainy Medical School
  • On Monday in front of the dome inside the campus
  • On Tuesday at the Faculty of Engineering
  • On Wednesday they held activities in Giza Square

“The stupid repressive system only knows one way and keeps repeating it; they raise the sound of an explosion, then spread rumours that a bomb struck; until they justify their escalating violence against students in their universities to the world.”

They said they will continue their revolutionary mobility in universities, streets and squares, without wavering on any of their demands.
