Washington: Strong possibility of an agreement with Iran

November 19, 2014 at 1:59 pm

A senior US official said that there is a strong possibility of reaching an agreement with Iran over its nuclear programme.

In a telephone conversation with Al-Quds, the official said: “There are obstacles to be overcome, but we have made significant progress.” He also stressing that the agreement is at hand and that the P5 +1 and Iran are negotiating to find an acceptable resolution.

The last round of negotiations began in Vienna, Austria, on November 17 and are expected to finish on November 24.

The official confirmed that Washington wants the negotiations with Tehran to succeed and that it will not accept any failures in reaching the settlement. US officials have avoided answering questions as to whether or not Washington plans to lift the sanctions on Iran.

While there are rumours circulating that Iran has rejected an eight-page proposal from the US, Washington has yet to confirm or deny these reports. Last week, Russia announced its plans to build two new nuclear reactors in the city of Bushehr, Iran.
