Unidentified aircraft target Islamist bases in Libya

November 22, 2014 at 2:11 pm

Unidentified aircraft have targeted several military bases controlled by Fajr (Dawn) Libya forces in the west of the country, a military source and witnesses told Anadolu news agency. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Anadolu that four military bases in Beir Ghanam and Shakshouk, around 100km west of Tripoli, were targeted.

The fighter jets, it is claimed, filled the skies of western cities before explosions were heard. No casualties were reported. The Chief of Staff appointed by the parliament in Tobruk decided a few days ago to increase the number of aircraft stationed at Al-Watiyeh Military Airport, about 170km west of Tripoli, as reinforcement for forces loyal to the parliament.

During the past two months, several reports have mentioned that unknown planes carried out attacks against Fajr Libya forces. A number claim that Egypt and the UAE are behind the attacks, but this is denied by both countries, even though they support the Libyan parliament propped up by renegade General Khalifa Haftar.
