Israel arrests Fatah official in East Jerusalem

November 25, 2014 at 12:30 pm

Israeli police arrested the Secretary-General of the Fatah movement in East Jerusalem, Adnan Ghaith, and his brother, Sadik, after a raid on their home in the village of Silwan, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque, in the early hours of this morning, a spokesman for the movement said.

Spokesperson for the movement in the West Bank, Ahmad Assaf, wrote in a statement sent to the Anadolu Agency: “Israeli occupation forces violently broke into the home of our brother Adnan Ghaith, Fatah’s secretary-general in Jerusalem, and arrested him. This confirms that the occupation government is moving towards escalating the tensions, violence and terrorism, particularly in occupied Jerusalem. “

Assaf said: “Ghaith’s arrest will strengthen the Fatah movement.”

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club said: “This morning, the Israeli occupation forces arrested eight Palestinians from the West Bank and Jerusalem, including Adnan Ghaith and his brother from Jerusalem, and two others from Jericho, east of the West Bank, and Hebron,” without mentioning the identity of the other six detainees.

According to the Israeli police and Palestinian Prisoners’ Club, since the beginning of July, more than 1,000 Palestinians from East Jerusalem have been arrested.

The Israeli police did not issue a statement regarding the arrests.
